A wonderfully sculptural piece of Danish mid-century design, this original Holmegaard “Pipe Line” pipe stand was designed in 1970 by Swedish-Danish design duo Hjördis Olsson and Charlotte Rude. The pair were known for their playful, unconventional approach to form and materials, and this little object is a perfect example of their modernist sensibility. 
Cast in heavy, glossy black glass, its wonderfully chunky rectangular form is punctuated by two deep, perfectly rounded pipe rests. The combination of weight, simplicity and almost architectural geometry gives it a wonderful Scandinavian Modern character—equally appealing as a functional pipe accessory or simply as a small piece of collectible glass sculpture. The “Pipe Line” was made to hold two pipes.
A fabulous little object for collectors of Holmegaard, Danish glass, smoking accessories and 1970s Scandinavian design—and one of those pieces that looks just as good sitting empty on a shelf as it does doing its original job.
