The Bluenose was originally built in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, in 1921 as a fishing and racing schooner. The Bluenose was undefeated in the International Fisherman's Trophy races. She was also known as the "Queen of the North Atlantic" for her speed. The Bluenose became a symbol of shipbuilding excellence and is featured on the Canadian dime. 

H. Leclerc was a well-known maker of these kinds of ship models, with his workshop located in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec. His models, often carved and rigged by hand, are considered collectible pieces of folk art.

There is some damage to the paint on the hull, as shown in the pictures.
