An iconic Maritime image, photographed in by one of its most iconic photographers.

MacAskill was born and raised in the seaside town of St. Peter’s, Nova Scotia, where he learned to sail as a young child. At 17, he moved to New York to attend the Wade School of Photography. After graduating in 1907, he opened a photography studio in St. Peters’ and then in Halifax, until his death in 1956.

MacAskill’s photographs are held in many private collections, as well as the National Gallery of Canada, the McCord Museum, and the Cape Breton University Art Gallery.

This lovely hand-tinted photograph is printed from MacAskill’s original glass negatives, signed and professionally framed in the MacAskill shop.
