A gorgeous pair of Mid-Century Modern hand-blown cobalt blue art glass handkerchief vases, with wonderfully fluid, sculptural forms that seem to have been caught in motion.
Each vase features the distinctive ruffled, folded “handkerchief” or fazzoletto silhouette, with sweeping peaks and valleys creating an almost floral or ocean-wave effect. The intensely saturated cobalt glass is particularly beautiful in natural light, glowing with jewel-like depth and translucency.
The fazzoletto form is strongly associated with the free-form glass tradition that emerged from Murano and became hugely influential in mid-century decorative glass. Together, they make a fabulous little sculptural duo—beautiful displayed empty on a bookshelf or console, or filled with a few delicate stems. Their wonderfully organic shapes and electric blue colour would look equally at home in a 1960s-inspired interior or a contemporary setting.
