A captivating fusion of fire and glass, the “Fireball” votive by celebrated husband-and-wife glass artists Andrea and James Stanford transforms the simple glow of a tealight into a mesmerizing sculptural display. Hand-blown in their St. Augustine, Florida studio from durable borosilicate glass, each piece is individually formed while molten, ensuring no two examples are ever exactly alike.
This striking example features sweeping organic tendrils that appear to rise and dance around the flame, enhanced by a luminous iridescent metallic finish that shifts between gold, violet, amber and sapphire depending on the light. By day it is an elegant work of contemporary studio glass; by night, the candle’s flickering flame brings the sculpture to life, casting warm reflections through its fluid forms and creating the illusion of a glowing ember suspended within molten glass.
The Stanfords are renowned for pushing the expressive possibilities of borosilicate glass, combining traditional lampworking techniques with imaginative sculptural design. Their work has earned an international following and has been featured by leading American art glass galleries, where their Fireball series has become one of their signature creations.
