This clock is an American Ogee Clock, that was likely repaired in the shop of E. A. Wile, Jeweller & Watchmaker in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia as indicated on the clock face.
According to the Mahone Bay Museum, Ephraim Ashel Wile, Jeweller & Watchmaker at Mahone Bay was born in 1876 in Waterloo. He married Jessie P. Ernst in 1900 and was listed as living in Oakland in the 1901 census. He died in 1959.
Check out the b&w photo of the children in front of E. A. Wile’s shop sign [from the Mahone Bay Museum]. What an amazing piece of local history !
The clock is likely an American Ogee clock, earliest examples of which were produced in 1840, and the style continued through 1910 by almost every American maker. These clocks allowed most households to be able to afford having their very own!
This clock uses a brass Waterbury Clock ( Conn., USA) mechanism with 2 stone weights. Lovely reverse painted glass. The key is included. It is not currently working but could likely be brought back to life. The wood is likely mahogany, as was typical for these types of clocks at the time.
